As the leader of the project team, I oversaw the planning, execution and shipping of Shopify's first annual billing option for merchants who opted in for a paid retail plan. Our team's goal was to create a billing option that would match the seamless online store experience that Shopify merchants have come to expect.
To achieve this goal, we began by carefully analyzing the existing billing options and determining where improvements could be made. We considered the feedback we had received from merchants and identified key areas where an annual billing option would be most valuable. From there, we designed a new billing structure that would meet the needs of Shopify's diverse merchant base while also being easy to use.
We then worked closely with the development team to build and test the new billing option, ensuring that it was fully integrated with the existing billing platform and met all of our design and engineering goals. Once the new feature was ready to be shipped, we created a comprehensive marketing plan that included targeted in-product information and updates to Shopify's pricing pages to educate merchants about the benefits of the new annual billing option.
After the annual billing option was released, we closely monitored its adoption and usage, gathering feedback from merchants and making additional improvements as needed. The new billing option proved to be a popular addition to the platform, helping merchants save time and money by streamlining their billing processes.
